Best practice project
Information on reference projects available | yes |

Best practice project - ongrid | S&C designed and built the Ameren Technology Applications Center (TAC) microgrid, which is one of the few microgrids in the world that operates at utility-scale voltages, between 4 kV and 34.5 kV, and has multiple levels of control. It is also the first investor-owned utility microgrid to island customers on an active feeder. The microgrid utilizes two 500 kW natural gas generators, a 125 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) array, a 50 kW wind turbine, and a 250 kW PureWave® Storage Management System (SMS), totaling approximately 1.4 MW in generation. The microgrid assets are managed by S&C's IPERC GridMaster microgrid controller. The microgrid is capable of operating in a variety of use cases including grid-tied, islanded, frequency control, demand response, peak load shaving and storm preparedness. |

Best practice project - offgrid | S&C is providing EPC services for the design and build of a microgrid for an offgrid industrial site in Oahu, Hawaii. The microgrid will serve the various loads and integrate multiple distributed generation sources including roof top solar arrays, diesel generators and a battery energy storage system. The 500 kW/1 MWh ESS is comprised of an S&C PureWave® SMS-250 and an LG Chem lithium-ion battery system. S&C IPERC is providing the GridMaster® Microgrid Control System to complete the 100% islanded microgrid site maximizing renewable assets and minimizing diesel fuel consumption. The microgrid incorporates 2.0 MW of generation provided by 500 kW generators, 500 kW of energy storage, and 1.0 MW of solar power. |
